Salt to the Sea
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys is set at the end of World War Two in East Prussia and thousands of refugees are on a desperate trek toward freedom, many with something to hide. Among them are Joana, Emilia, and Florian, whose paths converge en route to the ship that promises salvation. In this book I like all the character because each person has a different personality that is clear throughout the book. I like historical themed novels because it gives the story more purpose. I really like the design of the book because it's very artistic, plain but effective. I would recommend this book to 10 year old and over because it's more serious so you would have to be old enough to understand it. Also, younger than 10 wouldn't have the time and patience to read 378 pages worth of text. My favourite part of the book is the map at the end because you can refer from the text to it so you can get an insight to where the characters are going on their journey. I would rate this book 8 out of 10 because of the above but it's not the right theme for me. I would have preferred it if the book was themed at another place during the war like Germany or anywhere in Europe.
