Salt to the Sea

Salt to the Sea is about two young girls and two young boys, each of whom have different people they love and want to be with when the war is over. It is based in Germany in WW2 and each want to board the Wilhelm Gustloff to get home to their families. Each have very different missions but all of them are changed after their journey to the ship that grants them freedom.
MY favourite character, also who I feel I most strongly relate too is , Joana. She is an assistant nurse and helps anybody who is sick or in pain in her travelling group on their way to the port. She is kind-hearted, confronts problem's rather than ignore them and is a virtuous leader. The party look up to her and trust her.
However the members of the group feel that her weakness is that she always wants to go back and help the injured and sometimes she cannot. I do not think that is a weakness though because it is always good to have such love in your heart and Joana is a very important and affectionate character.
I found this book an inspiring and thought provoking book, the character's personalities and the extreme settings especially helped to visualize and fall in love with this book. I would definitely recommend this book to all readers as I learnt so much and enjoyed it a lot. I give this book 5 stars out of 5.
