Salt to the Sea

Salt to the Sea is one of the best, and saddest books I have ever read. Ruta Sepety's idea of having four different narrators, who are in different situations and have completely different characteristics, is effective because it gave me different points of view of how the war was. Throughout the novel I also found out so much about the ship Wilhelm Gustloff and because I was so interested I ended up watching a documentary on it. The plot was fantastic because it strikes a balance between fact and fiction. I love how each character is completely different, and how their characteristics range from cocky to shy. Ruta Sepetys is successful because when all the characters meet it is believable. Overall, I think this book was amazing and I will definitely be reading it again soon.
