Anna, Alleyn's

The Stars at Oktober Bend

I enjoyed this book because of its style and characters. I liked the way Manny was also an outsider in the book just like Alice and did not judge her about her speech. The ending to the book was also very satisfying when you find out Alice is going to be able to pursue her dreams on her own. I liked how responsible Alice's younger brother was and how well he handled most situations because he has to look after Alice and his Grandmother. Although, I liked Alice's point of view throughout the story, I think it would have been better if there was a break from her and more focus on the chapters from Manny's perspective. The no capital letters in Alice's chapters could get quite confusing as well as some of the poetry she wrote. Overall, I thought this book was very up-lifting and inspiring and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
