Dom, The John Mason Readers

Rook

Rook is a brilliant book, and whilst not directly addressing some issues, it does talk about anxiety, dating and autism. In a nutshell, it is about two brothers, Kenny and Nicky, who find an almost dead rook, and Kenny is instantly attached to the bird he has dubbed 'Rooky' and nurtures it back to good health. Nicky is having a hard time at school and is framed for causing his crushes brother to have an epileptic fit.

It is a touching book and is written to seem realistic and true to life. I was surprised by what it introduced, what is explained and what it took out of my life. It introduced me to problems others might have and how to help them. It explained about autism and epilepsy. It took away my worries and helped me enjoy life more. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and believe it may win the Carnegie Medal.
