Sam, The John Mason Readers
Well. I think that rook is a great book; not just the story, but the way it connects with secondary school kids is really good.
Follow a classic 14-year-old boys life ( chaotic and strange) through the eyes of Nicky. The story starts quickly, with him and his brother in the cemetery finding a what is thought to be a dead rook.
They take him home, clean him up, and from then onwards, it's their responsibility. But Nicky has other problems in his life, mainly this girl called Sahra who he really likes, and her brother, Peter who bullies him.
It's good to read, as a 12-year-old, its one of those books you can empathize with.
I really enjoyed it.
