'Saint Death' is an interesting novel by Marcus Sedgwick. It is set in modern day Mexico and is about Arturo, who risks his life to help his friend Faustino escape the gang he's been working for.
I found the book to have a very slow start but as it progressed I became more engaged in the story line. I didn't really like the characters that much and didn't care what would happen to them.
Despite this, I think that 'Saint Death' had a strong story line with no plot holes and it was also, at times, enjoyable to read. Although I didn't love this book, I still think it was well-written and has a good chance of winning the Carnegie Medal.
I would rate Saint Death 6/10 and recommend it for age 11+.
