Lucy S, Chapter and Verse (Thomas Cowley High School)
The Smell of Other People's Houses
I think this book is very well written and the different character perspectives truly brought the story together. It's interesting to read about the characters because all of their backstories are extremely different. There is Ruth, who lives with her very strict Nan; Dora, who is abused by her father; Alyce, who lives with her parents on a fishing boat and Hank, who runs away with his two brothers.
The story held my interest almost all the way through the book, but towards the end it seemed that the writer was racing the narrative towards a conclusion and the way the book ended made it feel very rushed. The ending of the book seemed a little forced and this turned the experience into an anti-climax for me.
