The Smell of Other People's Houses

The Smell of Other People's Houses was my favourite Carnegie book and one of the best books I have read recently. Like my other favourite Carnegie book, Salt to the Sea, it is told from four perspectives, Ruth, Hank, Dora and Alyce. It's set in Alaska, and the setting is described so well and is really important to the story. Often with multiple perspectives the different narrators can get a bit confused, but in this book all the different narrators had a really different voice, as they all came from different cultures and backgrounds, and all had different experiences of life. This book allowed you to really get inside the heads of the characters, and experience life through their eyes. A highly recommended read.
