Ameena, Heartlands High School

Salt to the Sea

I chose this book because the title made it sound like a heart- wrenching book. Plus, Fay told me to read it.

I don't particularly like war books, but this book was written so well, it surprised me to see how much I liked it. I liked that it was truthful, which made it connect with me even more. There were so many cliff hangers - at the end of every chapter. Would definitely recommend this book to anyone in need of a good cry.

What I didn't like about this book was...IT WAS TOO SAD.

My favourite part of the book was when they are getting on the boats while the ship is sinking, and Emilia gives Halinka to Florian and she sacrifices herself. It just shows how powerful and selfless a mother is and reminds us all that we are all here because of a woman - so we should remember to show gratitude for all the sacrifices she has made for us.

I would rate this book as a 3/5
