After the Fire
After the Fire is a story of survival, power and persuasion. From the first page Hill has you devouring the words he's bonded with the paper because the book was full of empathy and written in first person.
Hill tackles some difficult themes and even brinks on the topic of mental scarring. Due to some content a year 9+ rating is most likely adequate. However the content doesn't take away from the story, in fact it adds more colour, conflict and heat to the plot.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would rate it 4.5/5. The half star lost would be due to the blurb; I just felt it didn't quite live up to the book's standards. However, overall it was a beautifully crafted book and I would definitely recommend it.
