After the Fire
Hmmm. I found this oddly unengaging. Perhaps due to the way it is written. Cult survivor Moonbeam is in a secure psychiatric centre discussing her experiences with her psychiatrist and an FBI agent. Flashbacks are fine in moderation, but a whole novel? It became too stop start and broke the narrative momentum. To me knowing she survived and that others didn't took away any sense of suspense and danger. There is a twist, but it wasn't much of a shock and left me feeling a bit disappointed.
