Salt to the Sea
Salt to the Sea... I cant even begin to explain how moving this book is. A heart wrenching tale plagued with the sorrows of an unforgettable war.
The unfortunate stories of Joana, Florian, Emilia and the unforgettable Alfred. Each with their own dark secrets, and pasts looked down upon with regret and bile.
As well as a well taught history lesson, the book uncovered the forgotten event of the tragic sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff, a signal of hope for many people. (Including our young four).
The smart Florian who went out of his way to achieve the things he thought mattered most, including ignoring loved ones. The unfortunate Emilia, a victim of one of this worlds most horrifying wrongs. The smart Joana, a well educated student and an imaginative Alfred who misses a life long gone.
A jaw dropping book topped with a tearful ending. A memorable tale which will truly add 'Salt to the Sea'.
A book worth reading and a taste of being in a Hitler ruled Germany.
Overall, I would give this book a highly earned 9/10. A definite must read for 'The boy in striped pyjamas' fans.
