The Bone Sparrow
I really liked "The Bone Sparrow" by Zana Frailion. I thought it was an important story that has such an impact with today's modern world. It was so different from any book I've read. "The Bone Sparrow"is about a refugee camp in Australia. The story follows Subhi, a refugee who was born there and how he deals with the struggle and the thought of being free someday. He meets a girl, Jimmie and a friendship which began as a spark soon bursts into flames.
This story needed to be written, people especially young people, need to experience the hardship such innocent refugees face. Zana Fraillon writes beautifully creating a heartbreaking tale which manages at the same time to incorporate unexpected humour which really worked with the story. Her characters really came to life as the story progressed, you really got to know them and care about them. Subhi, I loved so much I wanted to take him home with me and give him hot chocolate; he was so loveable. I really enjoyed reading from his point of view. I loved the story Jimmie and Subhi read together in the book, the way it added so much to the story was amazing and I loved reading it and reacting to it with the two characters as well. If you haven't read this book please add it to your bookshelf it's one you won't want to miss out on.
