Personally, I believe the book was a real experience from start to end.
Dull moments in this story don't exist while Arturo attempts to solve a problem that literally knocks on his door. Marcus Sedgwick gives each character a unique and thrilling background that the reader can uncover as the story progresses, like Faustino's daring journey to Anapra or Arturo's parents.
When Faustino visits Arturo, the reader is completely uncertain of what to expect, whether Arturo is revisiting a dark memory from his past or Faustino is a friend that he sees quite often.
The author has done very well in making the plot uncertain which is really exciting as there's no 'I knew that was going to happen' moments. Arturo is uncertain about himself as a person. The reader knows who he is before he does, that is why he's my favourite character. He is courageous but cautious and yet he helps his friend in a very dangerous situation.
This book is worthy of 5/5 stars because the plot comes together with every character's story being explained and developed from start to finish.
This book is definitely one of my favourite reads for a while.
