Sophie, Christ's Shadowers

Rook is a hard-hitting, emotional inspiring book about two brothers, Kenny and Nicky, who find an injured Rook in the park and take it home to nurse back to health. I like this book because Nicky is having a tough time at school being bullied, and the rook he finds is a metaphor of this because the rook was hurt by some other birds, but he stood up for himself, just like Nicky. Having this comparison and metaphors between Nicky and the bird helps the reader understand what is going on and brings the story together. while Nicky is being bullied, and the Rook trying to get better, Nicky fights back against the bullies, which lands him in trouble. As Nicky's world turns upside-down and his dreams seem to slip away, his connection with the Rook grows, and he begins to fix his future. Rook is inspiring because it shows if you get knocked down, you can get back up and nothing can stop you achieving your dreams, no matter if you're a bird or a human!
