The Stars at Oktober Bend

The stars at Oktober Bend is a book that makes you experience all types of emotions at once. The book is written so simply, yet so powerfully. When you read it, the use of poems and prose, captivates the emotions and creates a vivid image of the story. To some people the book will be annoying with the lack of capitalization and punctuation, however, to others to lyricism and mingling with words will make the reader feel a sense of liberty towards Alice's writing. Brain damaged yet full of ideas unable to express them verbally, the paper gives Alice a voice. Freedom to express her thoughts and feelings. The refugee boy soldier, Manny, plays a main role in telling the story. A boy so different to Alice but yet so similar. Both with pasts of suffering and sadness the book reveals the bitter truth about the past and the future.
