The Bone Sparrow

The Bone Sparrow was without a doubt one of the best books I've ever read. Unlike many other books the topics are so real and touching. The author, Zana Fraillon, has such a captivating way with words. She really grabbed my attention in such a way that putting down the book was almost impossible. The scenes flowed so well moving along day by day, every day a new adventure. By reading the book I could tell she really put some thought into the issue at hand and it made me feel so personally connected to the characters in the book. I could tell she felt strongly about the subject of the refugee detention centre and had done her research on the types of people in there. She really empathised with the characters and not just sympathised. It's really a rare and amazing thing when an author takes in such a sad and upsetting theme for a novel and does not just write about the characters but really gets into their minds almost.
My overall review on this book would be a 9.5/10
