Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
Sputnik’s Guide to Life on Earth
In my opinion I think it is a good book for slow and young readers because it is targeted for young readers and is easier than other books such as Railhead. The main characters in the book are Sputnik, Prez and his grandpa. The main focus of the book is on Prez’s grandpa because in the book Prez keeps on looking for him. The characters are very likable. For example, Sputnik can talk and do things no other dog can do; he is also very good with electronics. The conflicts that they face include Sputnik causing trouble by making a real light sabre which caused trouble when he gives this to a child and it can cut down a tree.
The problems that the Prez faces are often because of his grandfather's dementia because he forgets who the people are and ends in an old people’s home. Sputnik and Prez spend a long time trying to find him. The problems that the main character faces is that he is from a different planet which got destroyed. The book’s moral lesson is to try, try again and you will succeed. For example Prez and Sputnik didn’t give up looking for Prez’s grandpa. The theme of this book is adventure with Prez looking for his grandpa. Long after the reader has read this book they will probably still think about it.
Sputnik is set in the present day in south Scotland which is mostly realistic apart from Sputnik and whatever he does. The author puts you in the setting as if you were watching everything, by making it very descriptive. Personally, I enjoyed this book because of the adventure and how naughty Sputnik is. My favourite part of the book was at the old people’s home because it was when Sputnik made the chair that goes up and down the stairs shoot up through the roof. Lots of other people would enjoy this book because it is different, has adventure and has some mischief. I would recommend this book to young people between 9 and 12 years old.
