Miss Pearson, Neston Book Club
Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
Beautiful, hilarious and heart-warming. It was everything a children's book should be.
OK, I admit this wasn't at the top of my to-read pile when the shortlist for the Carnegie shortlist was revealed. I was far more excited by the YA selections. When our school book club passed me this one next it sat on my desk for a few days but once I started it was beautiful. I expected a nice story for younger childen what I found was a funny book that danced with everyday magic, vibrant characters and a brilliant plot. The writing was beautiful whilst still being accessible and Frank Cottrell Boyce deals with dementia in such a humanising way I was welling up mulitple times.
A future classic I am sure, I cannot wait to pass this on to students in school.
