Josie, St Helen and St Katharine

The Stars at Oktober Bend

I didn't really like the way this book was written. Mainly because of the weird poems that were just fragmented sentences, arranged so they would fit. What basically happens in this book is nothing, apart from at the very end, Alice saves someone's life when the flood comes. Before the book starts, Alice had got attacked by some people, and suffered brain damage. During the book, she sometimes has fits and passes out. Manny is a boy, new to the country, who loves Alice, and wants to help any way he can. Joey is Alice's younger brother, but despite being the youngest, he is the head of their small family. Joey tries to look after Alice, but sometimes he just can't. Manny first sees Alice when she is standing on the roof of her house, throwing poems up into the air. Alice leaves her poems all over the place, so people passing by can read them. Sometimes she leaves a comments sheet beside her poems, and comment on them.

I found this book quite boring, and I would give it 4/10
