Salt to the Sea

Salt to the Sea is a pretty average book, really. It is full of the typical horrors of war and included alot of suffering and death. I also felt that it lacked solid description, especially in the ship and towns, which made it hard to picture the larger scenes around all the tragedy and death. The tiny chapters, flicking between multiple perspectives made the writing emotionally flat and disconnected, with no time to really get a feel for any of the characters as people. Overall, I'd recommend it to younger readers for the great historical detail, but it's not a read to crave about.
