The Stars at Oktober Bend

I read The Stars At Oktober Bend by Glenda Millard and it was amazing. I couldn't put it down, I was gripped all the way through. It is about a girl who has a brain injury as the result of an assault. This book has some poetry in it which I love and I also really liked how when the book was written from Alice's point of view there were no capitals. I think this reflected her slow speech. I like how it switched from Alice's point of view to Manny's regularly to show what was happening.

My favourite character was Alice as she was so brave, smart and strong yet she was slow and found a lot of things difficult. I loved all the characters except from Hamish O'Leary and Jack Faulkner. I didn't like them because they were cheats, mean and horrible people. I also liked how the supporting characters such as Tilda really contributed to the story.

I would definitely recommend this emotional, creative book to anyone of the age 11-12+ as I really enjoyed it. I would love to read more by the author.
