Cat :), Fairfield Shadows

The Smell of Other People's Houses

This story is set in Alaska in the 1970s and follows Ruth, Dora, Alyce and Hank over several seasons. They're all struggling with different things but their lives are all interconnected in different ways. The book deals with heavy themes such as teen pregnancy, abuse, poverty, parental abandonment, alcoholism and more. I really like this book especially since the character development is very good and you get to see the perspectives of different people although I thought the ending was a bit predictable. I also really liked how the characters are interconnected. Overall the book was very good! :)
