The Bone Sparrow
The Bone Sparrow is a very emotional book but I really enjoyed reading it. It is about the life of a refugee called Subhi who has been born a refugee but dreams of becoming free. The people who work in the camp are mean and one of them, Beaver, has once beaten someone up. Subhi’s friend Eli, is sent to the older boys’ camp called Alpha and he barely sees Subhi. Then Eli tries to find a way to escape and tell the world the sorts of things that happen. He and Subhi’s sister get hold of a camera and start taking pictures and putting them online. All the while, people are going on hunger strikes and Subhi’s Maa becomes ill and barely eats anything so she is watched extremely carefully. My favourite part is when Subhi meets a scruffy girl called Jimmie and they become friends. Jimmie shows him a way out but horrible things start happening at the camp, Eli is killed. At the end things start getting better and Subhi begins to have hope again as they escape from the harsh conditions of the camp.
