Salt to the Sea

Salt to the sea is a unique and entirely original book. This book is a sombre child and young adult page turner, a chef's masterpiece; it is a pure delicacy made up of an infinite amount of tale-changing detail but also the fundamental basics to an enjoyable read.
It recounts the events of a few weeks in the lives of four young people forced into an overly mature adulthood by the outbreak of the second world war. As I followed each character through their endeavours and efforts, I grew to know their singular personalities and form an unwitting connection or agonising hatred for them.
This book made me tearful and that is rare thing when it comes to me.
Overall, this is an outstanding read and I would recommend it to readers of all ages but be warned it tends to have the property of hypnotising you making you forget that it is possible to stand up.
