Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
I thought ‘Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth’ was dull, highly predictable and poorly written. The book's plot at first seems as though it may have been leading somewhere, but it constantly builds up to a big moment that never happens. Instead there are several different, smaller moments that are written in such a way that you know how they will end before you’re half way through them. The end is unsatisfying and not very interesting. The characters are all written very similarly and so become boring quickly. However, the author makes the main character, Prez, quite interesting by not making him speak which is realistic for a boy of his age who is going through losing his only carer. Yet, the author puts all his effort into Prez and the other main character- Sputnik, draining the other individuals of life. The descriptions of people and places are sometimes over-explained. This book may perhaps be more fitting for someone younger, although it has a plot that I would guess would be predictable for someone younger than me as well.
