After the Fire

After the fire is about a teenage girl who escaped from a cult and how she comes to terms with her dwindling faith and the real world around her. She left after the cult (named The Lords Legion) burnt down during a massive fight between the members and the police., in which all but a few of the children die. It gripped me from the start with a jump straight into the action, having started right in the midst of the fire. From then on you discover the main character Moonbeam, who narrates the whole book, you do not know much about her at the start, and you only get snippets until the very end, which I find really interesting and mysterious and it is one of the main reasons why I could hardly put it down. The author also uses flashbacks with just a little bit of information each time just to build up your knowledge gradually. Overall I think that it is an extremely well written book that delves into really deep subjects that relate to a lot of things that are relative now, such as extremism. A must read and a full 10/10. Loved it!
