Mrs Castle, Chobham Academy Book Group

Beck

I was hooked from the first page with this book and then shocked by what happens to Beck in the first few chapters. The themes of exploitation, friendship and love are dealt with in a graphic way which makes this a book for older readers. The hardships endured, make this a difficult read at times, but Mal Peet succeeds in making Beck a character you care about. In my opinion, it is a firm contender for the award.
