Sian, Exeter Cathedral School

I think Pam Smy's Thornhill is a good book with a mysterious feeling to its story. The book's cover is very intriguing and gives you a taste of what is inside the book. What is actually inside the book's cover is a sad story about a girl in an orphanage thing where all the other girls tease and are mean to her. The girl is not able to speak which makes her an easy target and is forever taking blame on rude and inappropriate things. Eventually all the mean girls are re-homed and their leader runs away. The girl then sets the house alight and turns into a ghost from then on she plays with another ghost and they all end up happy. The reason I like this book so much is because the book is told in two different ways pictures and diary entries a bit like the marvels last year except, you have to explain the pictures yourself. Although this book is by an illustrator, the storyline is very well thought of and the characters are very real in picture and in description through words. Overall, this book is a clever, interesting and exciting book.
