Luke, CoLA Chatterbooks
Salt to the Sea
The theme of this book is very much war based and about all the people who were having their lives affected by Hitler’s reign and I was very interested to find out about the different lost stories of these people.
The style of this book isn’t very modern for it was written to fit the wartime. At first, I found it a bit difficult to understand what’s going on because the chapters are about 2 pages long and every chapter was written from a different perspective which really gives the book its own uniqueness.
The plot was very well constructed for the characters all met at some point in the book and each character’s story always made you keep wanting to read more.
Characterisation & Settings
All the characters were always in the role and their personalities fitted them perfectly throughout the book. The settings were carefully chosen for there was always things like snow or an abandoned barn.
Cover and images
If you look closely at the cover of this book you can see that there are barbed wires at the bottom but as you look up the page, the barbed wire turns into birds flying away freely. I thought that was a really nice touch to the whole thing.
