The Smell of Other People's Houses
The Smell of Other People's Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock is one of my favourite books. I love how all the character learn a lesson. The book has four main characters, and you get to see the story through their eyes. I sort of get why the book is called the Smell of Other People's Houses but I don't fully understand why.
The four main characters names are Ruth,Dora,Alyce and Hank. Ruth lives with her gran and her younger sister Lily. She falls in love with a boy and soon gets pregnant. Dora lives at her friend Dumpling's house as her mother spend most of her time at a bar and her dad's in prison. She starts to get jealous of Ruth and blames everything on her. Alyce loves dancing but every summer she works with her dad fishing. She is scared of upsetting her dad by wanting to going dancing instead of helping him fish. Hank is a boy who has run away from home. He has two younger brothers, which he learns is too much to handle on his own when Sam disappears.
I would recommend this book for people who like stories about friendships and morals. Also I would recommend it for ages 11-14. My rating for it would be 5/5.
