Adam, The Billips
I loved the book Rook, it was a very intense story and after a certain point I didn't want to put it down. The story had a very real effect because everything in it is very real and lots of people will be able to relate to it. The climax, where everything goes wrong for Nicky and he gets kicked out of his school and falls out of his dad, is very tense because I really wanted to know what was going to happen to him and if he was going to be alright. My favourite character was Kenny because he was really sweet and kind, the fact that he had learning difficulties and had to go to a different school where he could get the help he needed only added to the character. I also liked the way, all the way through the book Nicky didn't believe that Jenny's friend was Doctor Who, but at the end of the book we find out that Kenny was kind of right because the boy does some amazing magic tricks in the schools talent show. The way that the book is based on a family on the verge of collapse held together by one injured rook found in a field shows that even when times get tough you need to have hope and you'll make it through it. In the end this was a great book with lots of messages about life, and a great book to read.
