Saint Death

This is a fantastic read! I love, love, love it! This has all the elements of wonderful writing – a great plot, a perfect sense of setting and atmosphere, utterly believable and convincing characters, and a taut, tense and (frankly) terrifying depiction of life and death in the borderlands. The overpowering sense of desperation, but belief in faith and the saints, is brilliantly portrayed and the chapter about gambling is about as close to perfect writing as you’ll ever find. There are hints of Cormac McCarthy, Willy Vlautin and even George Pelecanos in there somewhere but this is as original, tough and brutal as teenage writing gets. Heart-stopping, in every sense of the word and just downright brilliant!
