Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
A good twist of comedy with the regretful story of a boy in care who encounters Sputnik in his adventures to find his grandad- a dog/alien/thingamajig (you get the gist) who will change his life for better or for worse........(da da daa!).
I enjoyed the light conversational tone of Prez's (the protagonist) voice as well as his (somewhat sarcastic) telepathic thoughts towards Sputnik as it made the story intriguing and funny at the same time! My first impression of this book is that it would be your normal run-of-the-mill story that overexaggerates its humour, however, there was a definite amusing air integrated throughout the text which does evoke streams of tears of laughter from oneself such as a certain event classified as the "jailbreak" (shh no spoilers-for more info please read the book). Furthermore, the book (gratefully) has a happy ending even though Prez might never see his companion for light years to come at least he has a happily ever after with a very happy if not forgetful granddad. I completely recommend this book!
