Issie, St Helen and St Katharine
I think this book is very good because the plot is well constructed and planned and keeps your interest from start to finish. At the end of the book most of the questions it threw out were answered apart from leaving me wondering why the book actually sucked her in - maybe it was the lightning, but nothing ever seems to tell you why?
The characters used in the book are very well described and you develop how much you know about things as you go through the book. They all seem to really follow their back story. They are also being found out about by the other characters in the story just like you are finding out about them which helps you to feel part of the story. They all act in character and develop throughout the whole book.
Even though the style of the book was quite young (I felt it was for younger children) it was still very enjoyable. The author changed the mood quite a lot from leaving the reader completely terrified to being happy. I didn’t particularly like this approach but perhaps it made the story more interesting overall. The author balanced the dialogue between the characters really well, but it was nice also having some narration.
I really enjoyed this book. I felt it was an excellent read for the age group it is targeted at but it was still really fun to read as an older reader. I would say that it deserves an 8 out of 10 because it left me with some unanswered questions, but it was a really witty and well written book.
