Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth
The book "Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth" is about a child from temporary accommodation, also referred to 'the temporary kid', called Prez. Prez is very quiet and doesn't hardly speak at all. He is staying with a family on a farm when one day he hears the doorbell ring, except the house hasn't got a doorbell...
At the door there is small alien wearing giant goggles and a kilt, his name is Sputnik. Although, to Prez, Sputnik is an alien; everyone else sees him as a dog.
Together Sputnik and Prez must make a list of 10 spectacular things on Earth...
to save the World.
My favourite character is the protagonist, Prez, because he is very quiet and listens to what he is told. He doesn't say anything without considering the consequences. He is very thoughtful and tries to make the younger sisters in the family he's staying with happy by getting them presents and things like that.
I don't really have a least favourite character, but if I had to choose I would pick the Sister Jessie as she starts being quite selfish because Sputnik spends more time with Prez. However, I do feel slightly sorry for her as she thinks Sputnik is a dog.
In conclusion, this is a very easy and quite a quick read. I'd recommend this book to younger readers. I think older readers would enjoy it as well, but might not find it challenging enough. I rate this novel 4 out of 5 as I did not find it very challenging.
