Salt to the Sea
"Salt to the sea" was an incredible and emotional story.
The plot consists of 4 main characters who are all refugees and are fleeing from the war to a safer place. They try to make it onto the Wilhelm Gustloff in order to escape.
The book was told from 4 points of view: Emilia, a young polish girl, Joana, a young Lithuanian lady, Florian, a Prussian solider and Alfred, a German sailor. With all 4 main characters being from different backgrounds they believed different things and had individual and separate opinions.
I loved this book because every character was important and no one was more needed than an other. I also think it was wonderful and creative because everyone had a separate job or were trying to get somewhere but all the divided paths crossed and they were drawn together. I liked how the truth was shown and spread across the novel underneath the fiction and fantasy.
"Salt to the sea" took a few chapters to understand, as the plot starts quickly. However is worth reading for longer amounts of time.
I give this story 5 stars and is my favorite Carnegie book so far!
