Salt to the Sea
Salt to the Sea is a WW2 novel based on real events. It is from the perspectives of four young people, all from different places in war-torn Europe, three of which are refugees and one a Nazi soldier. Although they are all different they seek to board the Wilhelm Gustloff and all hide a dark secret.
I highly recommend reading this book since it captures the thoughts and feelings of those fleeing and those fighting. In this books there is love, action and tragedy.
Since this story is based on real events such as the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff, it makes everything all the more heart-wrenching as well as very disturbing.
Throughout the book the constant hardship of war is shown and the reader is left gawping by the gruesomeness and depth of Ruta Spetys emotive writing.
You NEED to read this book.
