The Smell of Other People's Houses
The Smell of Other Peoples Houses written by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock is a book about four people called Ruth, Dora, Alyce and Hank. They are all looking, hoping and wishing for very different things and they have no idea that their worlds are about to collide. I like how this book is in first person, and it is told from a different perspective in every chapter. This could have been potentially confusing, but I found the storyline easy to follow. Before every few chapters I noticed that the author had informed us what season they are currently in, which gave me a better understanding of the setting and the background. Overall I enjoyed this book, and although it is a 13+, I would recommend this to children 12 or over. I would rate this book 4/5. If I could ask this author one question about this book, I would be curious to know what was her inspiration to base this book on the smell of other peoples houses, as I think it is very unique.
