Mrs G, UAH - Hooked On Books
I absolutely loved the opening chapter of this book; it is told from the perspective of the rook and it had me gripped.
The book is a heart-warming tale of two brothers who find an injured rook and want to take it home to help it recover. The rook weaves in and out of the story as the main character is the older of the brothers - Nicky, who struggling to deal with his everyday life, gets into trouble and seemingly makes the situation worse because he won't back down.
Events are realistic and many children will be able to identify with this. As a reader you can sympathise with Nicky. In addition to this, you find yourself wishing the choices he makes had been different.
Although the book is a quick read, it's definitely engaging and leaves you satisfied at the end.
