Ella, Chasing the story

Night Shift

This picture book was amazing. Even though it's a picture book, it deals with very serious topics like depression and anxiety. These are things that definitely need to be noticed in Modern Day Literature. The pictures were cleverly drawn and fitted with the story. The writer took the basic structure of a picture book and put it into a very deep and serious topic, which I think should be done more.

To be fully understood, I think that Night Shift is aimed at 11+, but it was quite an easy read so it could be read by a variety of ages but younger children may find it hard to understand what's going on.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was the ending, it was rather sudden and not well explained. I understood the intent of the ending but I feel like it should have been longer.

Overall, I think that Night Shift should the Greenaway award because it's a deep book with amazing illustrations and writing. I think that more Modern Day Books should deal with problems in todays world like Mental Health.
