This is an emotional story set in the First World War about a girl called Annabelle, who has to deal with a psychopathic bully. This is definitely quite sad at times, and some of the characters are well-developed, including the main one, but others aren't, which I thought was a shame, as it would have been good to see a bit more about some of the other characters, especially Betty. The writer has used a good choice of setting, and brought it to life very well, which was one of the things I liked about this book, but this may be because I do enjoy books set in the war. Generally, I did enjoy it, although it doesn't beat Railhead. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone under 10, due to some of the violence themes.
