Eloise, Carshalton High School for Girls

The Stars at Oktober Bend

The stars at Oktober bend is certainly an unusual book, half being written in poetry and with NO capitals! It’s about a young disabled girl who tries to connect with other people through poetry she writes because she is unable to speak, but meets a boy who sees her for who she really is. I didn't finish reading the book. Personally I found it a confusing read for the most, the lack of capital letters doesn’t bother me but the way it’s written from Alice’s point of view confuses me, I find it too poetic. Don’t get me wrong from what I did read the story had a lovely idea, but the only time I felt the story went anywhere was when Manny spoke which, compared to Alice, isn’t much.
