The Bone Sparrow
The Bone Sparrow is a great book. It is about a boy, Subhi, who is a refugee and Jimmie who lives on the 'Outside'. The book was written in order to bring light about people who are stuck in refugee camps and the way they are treated. It is upsetting at points but I enjoyed it. The ending was very sad and I wouldn't recommend this book to younger children (under 11) due to how upsetting the topic/theme of the book is. It is an eye opener and shows how badly people treat the refugees. I would recommend this book to above 11's as it can show people the 'harsh truth' about the world. The most upsetting thing about the book is that if you read the Afterword. The Author, Zana Fraillon, says that the book was written based off of how people are actually treated in Australian Detention Centres which is shocking.
