Salt to the Sea

A book is like a piece of art, and 'Salt to the Sea' paints a beautifully heartbreaking picture. Four different perspectives of the horrors of war intertwine to create a gripping and moving plot which has you on the edge of your seat while keeping the pages turning. All you want to do is find out the fate of the characters! The characters, desperate for freedom and safety, board an overcrowded ship in the hope that it will lead them to it. The last few chapters are especially good with very accurate perspectives on war, loss and many plot turns; it is as if the author has experienced it. The most horrific fact of all is that this tragedy actually occurred. Overall, it was a great book which (so far) is my favourite from the Carnegie shortlists. I recommend this amazing book!
