Salt to the Sea
I really enjoyed reading 'Salt to the Sea' by Ruta Sepetys, and it has become my new favourite book. I love how the author told the story from four very different perspectives, so that the reader can get an insight into everyone's thoughts and feelings. The descriptive language used really paints the scene, and as soon as I started reading I got lost in 1945 on a desperate journey for safety. As it is based on a true story, I really enjoyed the historical side, especially as WWII is a particular interest of mine. I think that it keeps the reader interested at all times, creating tension leading up to the main disasterous event. The characters are written well with enough secrets to keep the reader wanting to know more, and the fact that they all have very different backstories but come together also shows something about the history of the time, and how desperate people were. I especially enjoyed how the story was resolved well at the end, as if it hadn't have been I would have been left very frustrated! Overall, I really enjoyed this book and fell in love with the characters, making it my new favourite book and very strong competition!
