Gail, John Mason School - Abingdon

The Stars at Oktober Bend

This book is an amazing story, making you think about the world in a different way. About a girl with slurred speech and a boy from a different country, it is written in the first person and really shows how the characters feel, gradually revealing what happened to them. This builds up some suspense. The chapters from Alice's (the girl's) point of view, have no capital letters and lapse into poem format; although this shows her personality and makes it unique, it makes it quite confusing. I would recommend this book to older readers. On the whole, I enjoyed this book although it was difficult to get into at the start.
