Isabelle, Exeter School
This was a brilliant book. It was compelling, sad and tense. Every second was dramatic. I loved the way that there was a lot of mystery throughout the book and you feel as if you are really there. It is very clever because it feels like a dramatic thriller even though it is quite slow. I loved the idea of the statues of Saint Death being like her spirit and how Arturo can sort-of talk to them. Overall it made me think about what it must be like to live somewhere so poor and you're so close to escaping to somewhere rich, but you can't.
