Rosie , Mill Chase Academy

I chose to read this novel because I saw that it was about an African-American boy in a very racist time. I hoped that it would be a fast paced, moving tale that is still relevant today. The book only achieved the latter, for me. I found the author’s writing style a little too heavy, and I felt that in places there could be a little bit less description. In addition, the writer seemed a little too aggressive, which I partly liked, but in places I found it was a bit too much. On the other hand, Beck, the protagonist, was a very interesting character, and I liked reading about his journey. I particularly liked how realistic he was, as he had flaws, but was still likeable.

In conclusion, this was quite a mediocre book. It could have been brilliant, had it been written by someone else, but I do not think that it was the right genre for that particular author.
